  5. Welcome to Le Franglophile-Windows, the Windows 95 (and later) version of
  6. the popular shareware French-English dictionary.
  7.  
  8. WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?  Why would you want to use it?  Well, here are a
  9. few features...
  10.  
  11.     * Nearly 250,000 indexed items, including over a hundred thousand
  12.     translations, and tens of thousands of secondary entries.
  13.     * Indications of literary, slang, and vulgar usage, and indications
  14.     for usage (including synonyms, accompanying prepositions, general
  15.     categories, and more).
  16.     * A reverse translation feature, which helps show how various choices
  17.     translate back into the departure language (an essential tool for
  18.     zeroing in on the right word or expression).
  19.     * A comprehensive on-line grammar reference for both French and English.
  20.     * Tables showing translations of numbers, expressions of time,
  21.     geographical terms, as well as samples of correspondence.
  22.     * All this at blinding speed, using surprisingly little memory.

  24. HOW DO YOU USE IT?
  25.  
  26. It's pretty easy.  Run the installer to install the program; be sure to allow
  27. it to update your HTML help if you currently have anything under version 1.2).
  28. Then, launch Le Franglophile by double-clicking on it; the rest is fairly
  29. intuitive.  For special features, check out the on-line manual under the Help menu.

  31. NOTE:  Le Franglophile-Windows uses Microsoft's new HTML Help system.  If you can't
  32. access the manual or on-line grammar from the Help menu, it probably means your
  33. Windows Help needs to be updated.  The installer will do the update automatically,
  34. unless you declined that option.  To run the updater yourself, launch the small
  35. application "HHPUD.exe", included in the "Aide" (help) folder.    (To get HTML help
  36. in languages other than English, download the appropriate updater from Microsoft,
  37. at http://www.microsoft.com/workshop/author/htmlhelp/localize.asp).

  39. HOW DO YOU PAY FOR IT?

  41. How nice of you to ask.  The trial period last 45 days, after which you should decide
  42. whether or not you will continue to use it.

  44. Le Franglophile-Windows is shareware, and it costs $25 for single user licenses.
  45. (Note that 10% of profits go to non-profit educational organizations, including those
  46. that promote French language and culture.)  The easiest way to order is to choose
  47. the "Register Now"  button in the initial screen.  Or you can go to "Register now"
  48. in the Help menu.  You can also register on-line at http://order.kagi.com/?POB.   Be
  49. sure to check the box for the WINDOWS version of Le Franglophile. (More information

  75. Bienvenu au Franglophile-Windows, le dictionnaire franτais-anglais
  76. pour Windows 95 (et ultΘrieur), version shareware.

  78. QU'EST-CE QUE C'EST?  Pourquoi l'utiliser ?  Voici quelques-unes
  79. des ses fonctionnalitΘs...
  80.  
  81.     * Pres de 250,000 termes rΘpertoriΘs, y compris plus de
  82.     100,000 traductions, et des dizaines de milliers d'entrΘes
  83.     secondaires.
  84.     * Des milliers d'entrΘes comportent des indications signalant
  85.     les emplois littΘraires, argotiques (voire grossiers), et des
  86.     indications syntaxiques et de contexte.
  87.     * Une zone de traduction inverse, ce qui permet de retraduire
  88.     un terme dans la langue de dΘpart (trΦs utile pour cerner le
  89.     mot juste).
  90.     * Des prΘcis de grammaire (franτaise et anglaise) en ligne.

  97. COMMENT L'UTILISER ?

  99. C'est facile : lancez l'installeur.  Acceptez que l'installeur mette α
  100. niveau votre version de HTML Help, si votre version est infΘrieure α la
  101. 1.2 (Voir en bas).  Pour lancer Le Franglophile, il suffit de double-cliquer
  102. sur l'ic⌠ne ; tout le reste est intuitif.  Pour des prΘcisions, consultez
  103. le manuel sous le menu Aide.

  105. A NOTER :  Le Franglophile-Windows se sert du nouveau systΦme d'aide en
  106. HTML de Microsoft (HTML HELP).  Si vous ne pouvez accΘder au manuel ni
  107. aux grammaires en ligne, cela veut dire en toute probabilitΘ que votre
  108. systΦme d'aide n'est pas α jour.  L'installeur aura mis votre systΦme α
  109. jour, α moins que vous l'ayez refusΘ.  Pour le faire vous-mΩme, lancez
  110. la petite application HHPUD.EXE, qui se trouve dans le dossier "Aide".

  118. Eh oui, il faut y penserá!  La pΘriode d'essai du Franglophile dure 45
  119. jours, aprΦs quoi vous devriez dΘcider si oui ou non vous allez continuer
  120. de vous en servir.

  122. Le Franglophile-Windows se vend α $25 par licence individuelle.  (Notez
